The Quarry NZ conference now at a close for the 2016 year. There were more than 250 registrations, CPD points earned, some excellent wine and awesome catering with technology a plenty making this conference a success for all those in attendance, we are sure.

One cannot help to feel a bit special in knowing you’re estimated to be one of just 3 million people employed globally within the industry. On positive news, New Zealand is recovering from the worst recession since the Great Depression. Down on average some 30 – 40% 6 or 7 years ago we now see roading aggregates dominate with some 21.5 m tonne which was more than apparent in having driven down from Auckland to Blenheim, followed by housing aggregates at 11.7 m tonne per annum.

You guessed it; demand leads with Auckland and Christchurch booming due to housing shortages and the Christchurch rebuild respectively. These aggregates make up nearly three out of every four truckloads of industrial minerals carried out of the quarry, to locations throughout New Zealand.

A special thanks for all those that visited our (WZWB) WrightZone Weighbridge software stand; the feedback delegates provided on our weighbridge solution was warmly welcomed and appreciated, offering affirmation that our scale software solution is commendable.

APIs make it possible to move information between applications.

APIs make it possible to move information between applications.

Conversation identified a common missing link or gap in the weighbridge solution, being without integration, to your existing accounting or ERP software and/or communication between the weighbridge and/or loader driver scales. The metrology solution is an API or application programming interface which are a set of requirements that govern how applications can talk to one another.

APIs aren’t at all new; putting it simply it is a toolset used to communicate. Whenever you use a desktop or laptop, APIs are what make it possible to move information between programs—for instance, by saving or copy and pasting to MS Excel directly from inside WrightZone Weighbridge or any application for that matter.

Our WZ Scheduler service is an engine of our WZ weighbridge software solution providing one of many live API examples of read and write integration, in accessing ‘exposed’ external application internal functions that are made available to the outside world, in a permitted data centric fashion.

Loader driver hardware options of quality and trusted providers were apparent. We identified a preference for loader scale hardware that could receive and send over the local network ultimately consolidating the weighbridge and loader scales data for  easy compare, and operations analysis.

What scale hardware brand and model do you use? How are you managing and reporting this valuable data?
